【Preamble: To Build the Defenses of Peace in the Minds of Men and Women】
In July 2025, the United States once again declared its withdrawal from UNESCO by presidential order.
This marked the moment when the world's most influential nation turned away from the path of peacebuilding through culture, education, and science.
Yet we must remember: the ideals of UNESCO do not belong to any single country, nor can their value be nullified by the decision of any single leader.
They represent a collective oath of humanity—namely, that “peace must be built in the minds of men and women.”
Today, we must ask ourselves:
Is it enough to refrain from waging war?
No. A truly mature civilization is one that does not allow war to arise, involve others, or be justified in any form.
To prevent conflict through intellect rather than dominate through force.
To choose the chain of dialogue and understanding rather than the chain of violence.
This is the essence of modern civilization, and the foundational mission of UNESCO.
Even if America departs, the ideals remain.
Indeed, it is now more than ever that each of us bears the responsibility to keep their flame alive within our hearts.
